Accessibility

A website everyone can use.

This website meets WCAG 2.2 Level AA, the current version of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, with one exception we're working on, set out below. If anything gets in your way, tell us and we'll fix it.

Our standard

WCAG 2.2 Level AA.

The Americans with Disabilities Act doesn't name a technical standard for business websites; WCAG at Level AA is the benchmark US regulators and courts most often point to. We test this site against WCAG 2.2 Level AA, which includes every WCAG 2.0 and 2.1 Level AA requirement. As a company based in Ontario, Canada, we also meet the website standard of Ontario's accessibility law, the AODA.

WCAG 2.2 Level AA
Meets, except audio description for the explainer film
WCAG 2.1 Level AA
Meets, except audio description for the explainer film
WCAG 2.0 Level AA (Ontario AODA website requirement)

What that means in practice

Built in, not bolted on.

  • Keyboard first

Every link, menu, form and control works with a keyboard alone, in a logical order, with a clearly visible focus outline. A skip link jumps straight to the page content.

  • Readable contrast

Text and controls meet AA contrast in both the light and the dark theme. Information is never carried by color alone.

  • Zoom and small screens

Pages reflow to a 320-pixel-wide screen and to 400% zoom without sideways scrolling; wide tables scroll inside their own focusable boxes.

  • Screen readers

One heading structure per page, labeled landmarks, form fields with visible labels and spoken error messages, and text descriptions for every illustration.

  • Motion you control

Animations respect your system's reduce-motion setting, and anything that moves on its own has a pause button. Nothing flashes, and the film never plays until you press play.

  • No time limits

Nothing on this site times out, and no form asks you to remember or retype information from an earlier step.

How we check

Tested page by page, not sampled.

  • Every page in both markets is tested with axe-core against WCAG 2.0, 2.1 and 2.2 Level A and AA rules, in the light and dark themes and at desktop and phone widths.

  • Key pages are audited with Google Lighthouse in its mobile setting for accessibility, best practices and search.

  • Every page is checked at 320 and 375 pixels wide for sideways scrolling, and menus, forms, tabs and accordions are worked through by keyboard.

  • Contrast, focus visibility, reduced motion, content shown on hover and the pause controls are reviewed by hand.

The one open item: audio description for the film

The explainer film on the home page has captions you can switch on with the CC button and a full transcript under the player. It doesn't yet have an audio-described version for people who can't see the screen. Ontario's AODA standard exempts audio description; WCAG 2.1 and 2.2 Level AA include it, so we list it here until it's done. The transcript covers everything the narration says.

What this statement covers

This statement covers this website. The hosted verification flow your applicants use and the customer portal are separate products; if you meet a barrier there, the same feedback address reaches us.
